  1. You don't dump fuel on an aircraft to protect the passengers. You dump fuel because large airliners are designed to take off with greater weights than they can land with, and they use this to take off with full fuel, knowing that the fuel will be used up, enough to satisfy the landing weight requirement, before landing.
