  1. Pure politics. Inconvenient truths: 1. The USA has done more to REDUCE carbon output than the countries in the Paris accord. 2. The reduction has been largely due to fracking, and the increased use of natural gas. 3. The left has stopped and reversed the deployment of nuclear power. 4. Nuclear power would have reduced carbon output to practically zero by now if it hadn't been actively blocked. And that is long before global warming was recognized as an issue. 5. The blocking of nuclear power has not only reduced nuclear power output (and contributed to carbon output), but it has made nuclear power much LESS SAFE by also blocking improvements in nuclear power modernization and safety (for instance by comparison to France). 6. California's (the "state to follow") efforts to REMOVE the use of natural gas to generate electricity has actually INCREASED pollution, because it caused California to make up the lost power by buying out of state power. This is not only more expensive, but dirtier as well.
