If government would simply ALLOW competition, then there would be no problem, and it would cost taxpayers nothing. In our city of San Jose, CA, not exactly a low tech area, Comcast, the only real high speed provider, has had a monopoly for decades on cable service, despite the fact that Comcast has one of the worst customer service records of any cable company. Simply allowing other cable companies to run their lines in the same city would dramatically lower the cost of broadband, as it has virtually anywhere cities have more than one cable provider option.
