  4. Water is power. They can pump from the lower locks to the higher locks, or even back to the lake. They can pump sea water up to the locks. It would effectively supplement the lake water with electrical power, and it would only be needed during low water problems.

  5. Just a side note: its true that FUSSR (former USSR) lacks warm water ports, but they have more than made up for that by becoming experts in the use of cold water ports. They can port submarines that come and go under ice, and roam under the north pole ice pack undetected, even though the USA has the best underwater submarine detection in the world. That, in conjunction with land based mobile missiles, has kept them a formidable foe to any nation.

The Tusis improved their position by becoming administrators in the rulers before the Belgians. There is a ton of them at the bottom of the oceans. The good news is these types of accidents are going to be far less likely in the future. The irridium satellite network has the ability to track airplanes anywhere in the world by their mode S transponders, and aircraft manufacturers and airlines are removing the ability of pilots to turn the system off.This real time tracking will enable tracking aircraft until the point at which they land or break up, meaning that the search area will be accurate to within a few meters.

  28. There is no conflict in going back in time. Do a simple thought exercise. Travel to the future. You are doing that right now. Pick a target, say, an hour from now. You can choose several different futures. You could get in your car, go somewhere, rob a bank, shoot yourself, etc. Any number of different futures. Since there are N different futures you can pick from, it stands to reason there are N paths to get from any past to your present NOW. If you travel to the past, manage to find that past (out of all the possible pasts), that have a hitler ready to take on the world, and kill him, then you would not be coming back to this future again but a different one. The difference is if you believe there is ONLY one past and ONE future. Since you already believe that there are N different futures, your belief that there is only ONE possible past is not a reasonable belief.

  35.  @crowdedveins9210  UPS got my kid's boyfriend killed by cost cutting medical care. He got an infection at a cut rate medical facility and died from it. He was there for back problems from heavy lifting on the job. So... not a fan. (true story). I think his parents attempted legal proceedings against UPS, but I wouldn't know. They were going after US as well (he died here in my house), so we had ample reason to not communicate with them.

The runway is 1729 feet, paved and marked. The most challenging thing about it is the altitude, at 9333 feet. There are several airports in California worse than that, and many unpaved. In Alaska that would qualify as an easy airport. I suspect the major factor here is attempting to bring large, fast aircraft into the airport. See for example Catalina Island airport off the coast at Los Angeles. Although 3000, the approach at one end is a sheer cliff where more that a few pilots have tried to drill into the mountain.
