Boeing was not fighting a European aircraft company, it was fighting the governments of Europe, and doing pretty well at that. What set airbus ahead is that they embraced modern avionics and cockpit automation at a time when Boeing was slow to modernize. Boeing sat back and claimed that airbus was making aircraft for less trained pilots, but that was exactly what was, in fact, going on. With countries around the world getting into aviation, pilot training was a problem. Reducing pilot workload and making the aircraft easier to fly was the killer app. Boeing, I think, turned this situation around. If it hadn't been for Airbus, boeing would have stayed decades behind. The competition has been good for everyone.

The FSB "inherited"? The FSB IS the KGB with a new coat of paint.

No eye plata (hay = eye). You won't be far wrong if you just forget the "H" exists in Spanish. Its not pronounced. So hay becomes ay.

@teamtoken Boeing used automation to cover a design issue with the airplane due to an engine change. They were trying to save themselves a few bucks in not having to retrain pilots. Because they didn't adequately train the pilots how to handle the system if it went wrong, they didn't know what to do when it happened. This was covered extensively in the WSJ.

Josh, congrats on the pronunciation of Menachem Begin. I suspect you worked at that.

Who's up for a fund to free Simon? What do you say.

"natural gas production in the USA has gone up 80% during fracking" well, actually this is more impressive than it sound. NG production in the USA was a going concern even when oil production was in decline, because the wells where oil was running out still produced NG. When the frac revolution started, NG was essentially a byproduct of oil drilling, and still is. If you want oil, and frack to get it, you get NG whether you like it or not. So the USA got flooded with NG. And a lot of it is simply burned off at the wellhead.

You mean because they don't tax the hell out of their corporations?

In short, Joe Biden is not what he used to be. And what he used to be was not that hot either.

Med - A - Yeen. Medellin. Home of my extended family in fact. Interesting that you all get so many Spanish words wrong when you have a Spanish version of this channel. Don't you guys talk to each other???

Just a thought: I would not bet on a Russian nuclear threat. Zelenski has had enough time, they have the material, and lots of knowledge and scientists to make a little toy of their own. Or two. And they are close enough to Moscow to drive it in or use other means. My guess is it would be used in back channels to get Putin to back off any such threat.

In Russia, Putin's top scientists invent a time travel machine. Putin dials it to go 10 years into the future, then return him to the present time. Donning a disguise, he steps into the machine and finds himself on a street in Moscow. He heads into a local beer hall, sits down and orders a beer. Chatting up the bartender, he says "I've been out of touch for a while. Did we win the war in in Donbas?". "Yep", replies the bartender. Now happy, Putin presses further. "did we win the war in Ukraine?". "Yep", replies the bartender. Now Putin is ecstatic. "Great... how much do I owe you for the beer?". "five Euros", replies the bartender.

If you are going to claim that you were forced to use nukes in a conventional war, does it not help if you didn't start that war???
3
Is that for Colombia or the USA?
3
Lets see, what has been going on in Detroit non-stop since the early 1960s? Oh yea.... AN UNBROKEN CHAIN OF DEMOCRAT MAYORS. Go figgure.

Ask the uighurs how rich they feel.
2
Yes, but probably pay protection money to the local gangs -- a defacto government.

The question is not if Ukraine qualifies as a EU country. The question is if Turkey qualifies as a EU country!
2
The coup d'merd.
2
Its pronounced like SAN WALK'N. You say that in California and people are going to start laughing.
2
This is another Biden cuckup. Portrayed as smart international politics, it ends up being simple appeasement. The good that can arise from this? My wife's home country lies on the brink. Petro needs to go, and hopefully this gives the Colombians the counter example they need to stop playing footsie with the revolutionaries. Once the socialists take control, they don't give it back.
2
Worldwide, the paradox is that the countries with the highest inequality are those with socialist governments, the very governments that were supposedly elected to solve that very issue.
2
"Ukraine had nukes".. yea that gets mentioned a lot, but it wasn't true. The Russian nukes were on Ukrainian territory, but they didn't have the launch codes, and the missiles were very well protected. Its up for debate if the Ukrainians could have broken into the firing mechanisms.
2
@MrSunturion Substitute "USA" for "Argentina" in that phrase and it still works. Or any European country.
2
Better idea: declare New York to be Part of Puerto Rico and be done with it.
2
I wouldn't put it past Putin that the people they grabbed as responsible had nothing to do with the attack. What better way to get a quick resolution and show FSB competence than just make up the attackers.
2
I have great confidence in the power of governments to mismanage their economies into the ground. This happens regardless of which country or system it is. China did well because government got out of the way of the economy. Now emperor Xi wants to run it all. Seen this movie before.
2
Maybe Ukraine figures this is the only way to bring an end to the war. So far, Russia has not paid a price for invading Ukraine outside of men and materials. This introduces the idea that Ukraine could do damage to or even capture Russian territory.
2
Communism fell, but dictatorships are alive, well and growing. Welcome to the third world era, counting Kingdoms, communism, and now dictatorships. When I was young, people used to say that democracies never voted themselves out of existence, with the sole exception of Germany. Now lots of democracies have voted themselves out of existance. And the trend appears to be growing.

Junta is pronounced "hoonta". You guys want to cover Latin America, aprendes a pronunciar espanol! Also, there is no "R" at the end of America! Its America, not AMERICERRRRRR. Sheez.
1
If you are poor, communism looks attractive (take money from the rich!). Unfortunately, this means the left has an interest in keeping people poor. And so it goes.
1
Used to be all the great powers f**ked over Iran. Now the do that to themselves.
1
Desantis will run and win... in 2028. 2024 is Trumps to lose. And he will.
1
Yes, the key takeaway here is that the "successful" socialist revolutions, supposedly against industrialization, all happened an agrarian societies, NOT industrialized ones, and were largely centered around forced industrialization (USSR,China). IE., were used on the wrong people to achieve the ends communism was supposed to be against. Why? because in the end communism was about power, and using people as disposable pawns to achieve it.

What he tried worked well in Venezuela.
1
Who is Belarus going to nuke? Themselves? Their biggest enemy is internal opposition.
1
Simple. Ukraine goes nuclear. They have the material and the know how, thanks to the USSR. They would have to keep it very secret and announce it very suddenly, since Russia would bomb any development site. But that is the surest and easiest path to maintaining Ukrainian security.
1
I say we give Iran several nuclear weapons free of charge. Preferably at hypersonic speeds...
1
I'll bet the military arms workers there are producing under the threat that they will be sent to the front if they don't work faster...
1
Uh oh, another one communique is com - yoon - e - kay. Its French.

Puck Futin!

Congratulations on pronouncing Kiev properly. I am really irritated that the American newscasters can't seem to get it right!

Socialist.

Agreed to go back to sticks and stones.... pretty sure this was a Startrek episode.

The biggest advantage of the US military is: capitalism and freedom.
1
Fine. Joe Biden may not be a radical. But he has the lifetime of a warm banana, and his brain left town already. We need to ask what Kamala Harris's america will look like. And I am scared.
1
Josh is getting better at this.
1
Its obvious what happened to Simon. He is in north Korea plotting to take control of the country.
1
Ok, its time to dispense with this. The Chinese creating fake US ships with a clear outline had no military value. It was designed to be seen from space and tick off the Americans.
