Small nit: the "Chechen terrorist" bombings that brought Putin to power and started the Chechen war were most likely a FSB concoction, and not only has the Russian government stonewalled investigations, but the people asserting it was an FSB operation had a tendency to die mysteriously. It was propaganda that brought Putin to power. And he continues to use it, and based the Ukrainian war on it. Putin is not "the strong man Russia needed", he is a sick manipulator that Stalin would have loved.
