The freight dogs will be first, then passenger airlines by number of passengers, ie., big airliners last. But it will happen. My guess is at some point one of those pilots will have a bad day and decide to fly underground, and cause a big rucas.

20gb of data... Humm. I don't believe that considers compression. A black box is not going to use much compression, if any, and especially not lossy compression. A satellite uplink would, and some lossyness would be allowed. Is BB data compressible? Yes, actually, slow moving data like control positions is very compressible. Also add the idea that systems like starlink can handle a lot of data bandwidth, requiring a large antenna that is only practicable on a large airplane, and finally the idea that soon starlink or similar capability is going to be standard on airliners to feed the demand for in-flight internet.

Normalizing measurements across international boundaries for aviation is worthwhile. Everything else is arranged so you don't have to change when going from country to country. It reduces work and errors.
