Its very true. I am the one who leaves the job. If I am not happy, and the job does not seem to be going anywhere, I leave. Usually for more money, and, lets face it, fresh and interesting work. Its sad but that is life.

I understand the idea, but I feel its better to go to a new job where you and provide good work than to slow down at a company that does not value your work or you feel has overworked you in the past. IE, just move on.

Even before this I assumed that GD was not anonymous. If you leave a review after termination, especially for smaller companies, they will be able to figure out who it was. For large companies, such reviews are less valuable, since the experience will vary by department/situation. However, this is good information. I am far less likely to use GD now.

I get rejection notices within a day after putting a resume in. I know for a fact that they are getting hundreds of resumes for positions, because web pages like linkedin tell you the number of applicants. There obviously isn't time to get through that many resumes. These are AI resume evaluation programs.

Even this is beating around the bush. What the employers want to know is "will you work all hours and sacrifice your health and family for this job". Old folks are far less likely to do that.

I admit to have this happen in the past, but not for a long time. I contract now. If for whatever reason they don't want me around anymore, the contract just gets terminated. Then I get another one. I'm 65 now. I'm not sure why I would want permanent employment anymore.

My hiring manager story is I interviewed for a company and met in person with the hiring manager. He was brutal and dismissed me while reading off my resume as inadequate for the job. I was about 19 years old at the time. I got a call about a week later from a headhunter who said "how about job X at this company". Same company. I told him about being sent home by the hiring manager. He said "don't worry about it, this is direct to the manager of the group". I said ok. I went in, the group manager met with me, liked me and wanted me to meet with the hiring manager. Uh oh. I went into his office, and sure enough, same guy. I waited for him to recognize me. It didn't happen. He was talking about when can I start, etc. Keep in mind I was 19 at the time. I then said something like "you don't even remember me do you", and told him where he could stuff the job and walked out. Truth is in my older age self, I would never have gone back there. It was a pyrrhic victory .

I'll admit I accepted just one counter offer. One month later we found out that the CEO was embezzling and the company was sinking like a rock. Mistake.
