  1. It IS an important point. Simply mining the border would not have done it. The Swiss made sure that Hitler knew well they would pay the price to conquer a heavily armed populace that could fight from the mountains. Also, having every male in Switzerland required by law to have a rifle and ammo at home kinda renders the gun control debate there moot no?

  2. I was discussing WWII history at work (I know, not a wise thing to do), and was talking about the fact that the USA actually bombed Switzerland at one point. It was the city of Schauffhausen, and it was bombed accidentally (yes, really, look it up). One of the guys in a cubicle next to mine, who I knew was in fact Swiss, jumped bolt upright and said "The US SAID it was an accident!". Apparently it is widely believed in Switzerland that the bombing was payback for cooperation with the Nazis during the war.
