  2. There are two holes in this argument big enough to drive a (electric) truck though: 1. EVs are NOT inherently expensive. BYD is making cheap ones, which we are banning from the USA. The rest of the world is not. 2. Apples vs. apples: going into how much pollution is generated by mining, etc. Those things are done for internal combustion cars as well. A real comparison would take that into account, as well as the hidden aspects of gas, namely that refineries generate a lot of pollution before the gas ever gets to your car. I have owned 4 different types of EVs, and I presently own two Teslas. I didn't buy the cars because of subsidies. The real issue here is EVs became political. Real EV adoption is slow and should be voluntary. Will EVs save the planet? It does not matter, simply because the people preaching that obviously don't believe it themselves, otherwise they would immediately buy one. Thus it will happen (adoption of EVs) when and if people want that. Stop the subsidies? Yes.
