The joke about Brazil, told to me by a Brazilian: God and the angels are creating creating Brazil. God says: "I'll put most of the mineral resources there, the forests, the water power, the gold, everything, into Brazil". An angel: "isn't that too much to put into one country?". God: "Don't worry. Wait until you see the people I put there...".

I like that quote: "it can take years to get overnight success".

These territorial concerns are obsolete in a nuclear age. Nobody is going to attack Russia as a nuclear power. All they are doing is creating a new enemy on their border.

"Hamas believes occupying the Philidelphi corridor violates the 1979 peace treaty" and Hamas invading Israel, then raping and killing citizens there does not?

This is how Venezuela will end up, and the USA as well unless it changes course.
2
Wouldn't this mean the USA never should have become a democracy, since we had a lot of territory, the people there (indians) were hostile, and we had to field a large force to subdue them?

"iran has veto power over a caspian sea rail bridge" I found elsewhere that Irans naviagational rights would be preserved by a bridge 100 meters over the sea. Apparently the veto is about ship navigation.

"Would love a train ride from India to Russia" and can end with a very nice tour of a Russian prison.

It will change little. Iran already has territorial integrity because everyone is afraid of them. If they attacked Israel with it, they would kill palestinians as well, and iran would end as a glow on the horizon from israeli retaliation. What would change is saudia arabia would then go nuclear as well.

The principal enemy of Iran is modernity, and the leaders of Iran are quite aware of that. This is why they have to keep their people from gaining from the modern world as much as they can. This strategy is destined to fail at some point. As the USSR found, you can't run a country as a jail forever.

Islamic = freedom yea, tell that to the people of Iran.

Which leads to the question. Why is Moldova not applying for NATO membership like now now?
1
Good for Russia. But they would save way more money by not starting wars with their neighbors.

Russia has nuclear weapons that can hit any point on earth. The days when mountains matter to Russian security are well over.

The problem: EVs and new age energy solutions effectively export pollution to other countries! Me: Ok.

Its odd to me how people describe flooding the world over as a "problem". Its a natural event, and it benefits mankind greatly by fertilizing the land around the river. This was true of Iraq, the Nile delta, and many other places. And in Iraq and many other places, damming the river and stopping the floods had a price of making the land less suitable for agriculture, which had to be made up for by irrigation. There is a price to messing with the natural order of things. I'm fine with that. But describing seasonal flooding as a "disaster" is just blind to the benefits of natural processes, the same ones that made the land attractive in the first place, and made civilization bloom there.

Maybe Israel figures this will flush out Sinwar.

Brexit. Brexit.

Has it occurred to you that Xi's "share the wealth" program is playing to the public? The government does not need a share the wealth program, they are sharing everyone's wealth quite nicely, thank you. The share the wealth stuff is pure populism: We (the government) got ours, we'll help you get yours from the greedy capitalists. And the rhetoric is empty. Why would the government share the capitalist wealth? They understand (at long last) they need to let the economy work so they can collect taxes and bribes. Why let the general population in on the game?

Britain learned its lesson from Brexit. In fact, everyone learned their lesson from Brexit 🙂

So ship Ukraine a laser shoot down capability from Israel. We seem to be returning to the first days of the war, with everyone predicting Ukraine will fail soon. Is it any more true today?

It was designed to blow up the deal with Saudia Arabia. And it is going to work. The two main takeaways from it are that Hamas pulled off a very effective attack that nobody thought they could, and that there is no way Israel can allow Hamas to govern "Hamastan" anymore.

This is why they invented carpet bombing...
