  1. It wasn't to satisfy his ego. He needs to win this war because he signed drilling contracts with western oil companies. Also, let's be real, at least 20% of the "aid" we send is converted to cash on the black market and put in his pocket. He wants to be rich, and this war is his ticket.

  4.  @lucap8962  signing a second drilling contract after Russia invaded after the first one in 2013-14(there may be others, when I looked for this, it was before Crimea was the easiest to find) is not trying to prevent a war.
