@BaldFury1 it's worse than that. The property next door is appraised at 30M, at 1/30 the size of lot. It's the most ridiculous ruling. It makes sense to normal people like the poster, who doesn't work with millions of dollars. That's why they did this, it "could make sense". It doesn't. It's very stupid. There is no way I could buy it for 30M. Also, a judge can't make a ruling on whether a loan makes sense. Dude, if they did that, our whole industry would collapse. OK, then we work investors can get their money back. They paid 50B market cap valuation for trash. We can't let judges value businesses and properties they're clueless on. The real issue is, appraisers suck at their job for tax purposes (or do it on purpose.).

@rangerdoc1029 no, the judge is saying the due diligence done by an APPRAISER was better than the banks due diligence, and is attempting to protect the bank even though the bank didn't bring the case. It makes ZERO sense. Appraisers can't value the land based on the BUSINESS it's used for. If I build a hotel on land, that requires the appraiser to be an expert in the business and they aren't. Imagine needing an appraiser for EVERY SINGLE INDUSTRY OF BUSINESS. IT'S LUDICROUS.

@rangerdoc1029 I transact in millions. They do die diligence. It's just the judge has ZERO understanding of what we do, because it's basically black magic. I couldn't explain it if I tried. So an APPRAISER value of something? Lol. I call it the real world and the finance world. Your world, the real world, 20M is a large number, and an appraiser might use that to show something is valuable. Where as in our world, the finance world, 20M is, what shows up on my sheets as 20. We count in millions. So 20 is no problem. Hell, even myself, a lowly staff person can raise 100M. It's just, when you get to our magnitude of numbers, it's impossible to comprehend unless you live it. This is a world where we would spend 20M extra to buy the property, without second thought. 20M isn't even a lot of money when you talk about that business.

@rossmanngroup it's worse than that. A judge will go out of their way to "protect the bank" and the bank doesn't even have to bring the case. And it's worse than that. Deutsche did bring a case and LOST vs Trump. This is just the judge manipulating every single thing to fit their narrative and if we apply this same standard across the board, everyone is screwed. Now, every bank can send an army of people out to measure everything and if you screwed up, they will dissolve your business, seize your asset, and resell it(on the profitable ones.).

@rossmanngroup since it's illegal to lie about square footage, let's take this further. The next recession(or best time), the bank sends people out to every home. You own the home and reported the sq footage. You checked and didn't lie right? And if you did, I sue you into oblivion and seize your home. And when my investment inevitably does something similar to this, and people like the original poster cry about the immorality of it, I'll smile with my dividends and think of which new Porsche I want.
