You have to be careful not to piss off the customer. Look at gamers. Look how many gamers are mad at gaming due to the shortage. It even hurt views on the subject for content creators and the comments were all negative. I went from very excited about gaming to not caring at all and seeing it as a hopeless black hole. You don't went to demoralize your customer base and have them spend elsewhere. Most people buy things because they want to, not need to, like the way you think. And yes, that extends to cars. Which to you is wild, but it's true. You run the risk of the consumer spending their time and money somewhere else. For me, that was audio and server. If all prices and supply normalized, I don't know if I would want to game still. That's what Ford wants to avoid. The customer losing interest in the purchase entirely due to the scalping.

I'm not saying it's right, but a lot of people are very pissed about scalping and the bad taste of seeing everything being resold second hand on day one is really making people upset. I don't think this is right, but I understand the manufacturer wanting to cut down on products instantly selling out and the majority of it being sold second hand. If less vehicles are in the second hand market day one, Ford fan kill the scalping image and gain brand image and loyalty. I can see the incentive on their side Not to mention they want to control the customer experience. I hate hunting around for a car. I don't like dealerships but even worse is trying to find a specific model car. I see the slippery slope as well. I don't know if it will help. But I see them trying anything to make it work.
