  1. As a government employee civilian or military you're under various laws that require you to not be biased politically. It's to protect civilians from being coerced by military, police, or other governmental employees. Federal civilian employees its the Hatch Act of 1939 which is added upon under the UCMJ which restrict or limit is how an individual may advocate on behalf of a political party, candidate, or elected official. Government servants must enforce laws regardless of their own opinion; otherwise you would have various government servants doing even more insane things such as withholding social security payments because they think social security is unconstitutional, or other arbitrary enforcement of laws. Not a good situation. So there's a reason for their silence on certain issues. If you can ask them confidentially, they'll usually tell you what they really think about any particular situation and/or law. I know I would when I was a vet, but when at the job or duty hours particularly in uniform, it's important to not be biased and only enforce laws.
