  1. If humans are to succeed as a space civilization, those looking back at us, should all go well of course toward being a space transiting civilization, will see our works as quaint. Terraforming a planet, being able to control plate tectonics, and essentially are energy on a planet like earth, and then going further to type 2, using all of sun's or star's power. Type 3 using the energy of the a galaxy. Our achievements will look like kids playing in the sand box; our nukes will be like kids who got int their daddies guns and started playing a dangerous game of Russian roulette though.

  2. It's a damn desert. And its huge. A few dams provide water during droughts to keep food prices from soaring, and at the very least, to keep from famine. And they don't produce CO2 in their electrical production. Maintenance and new innovation have helped keep various species at risk thrive. Along the various Columbia River docks and other dams where salmon swim, are fish ladders and farms and bypasses. Many dams are emptied to periodic maintenance like removal of mud and installation of new turbines, etc. There's nothing wrong with dams, damn it! Just call me a beaver with pride :) Idaho 40%+ of our power comes from dams. And did you know ancient Sumerians built dams, vast ones. On in particular broke, and they never reconstructed it, that area was abandoned. And is now desert filled with ancient remains of the Sumerian civilization.

  3. And seriously, you're so concerned we'll "damage". But if our civilization falls apart, as many have in the past. It all goes back to the way nature has it. Our conviction that we're changing the earth indefinitely via certain things like dams, even climate change, is pathetic. If we go extinct, no more than a few tens of thousands of years to hundred thousand years, traces of our existence would be gone on the surface. A few tens of millions, mountains are formed where none were, and old mountains are laid low into hills and hills into flat lands. Our concern about climate change has to do more about ourselves, the rate at which climate may change will likely bring about world wide famine. And that means billions die from starvation as well as all the un-fun things that happen when nations have crop failures: disease and war. IF it means our doom, the earth still has at least 600 million years of habitable time in the sun. We're not even a cosmic fart. That would be the sun. We're more like a virtual particle; the flickers of the Casimir effect, barely even existing.
