Find the video about fields, and you'll understand why it is so weird compared to the other fields EM field, Strong and weak fields, gluon fields, etc. It's rest energy is above 0. All other fields have a 0 rest energy, in order for the field to get excited, it requires something to pump energy into it. The Higg's field actually goes down in energy level when its in the presents of other field excitations (particles) that interact with the Higg's field.
My understanding the Higg's field transfers its above 0 rest energy to other particles (excitations of other fields), and that is where the fundamental mass of particles come from. Higg's field is weird, it's springy with energy, nothing there it holds energy, something there it transfers some of it until the object isn't there and springs back to being at a higher rest energy than 0.
