  1. It's not more accurate to say water is made of water.Water has building blocks that make up water. That's like saying a building is made of a building. And you said hydrogen and carbon--- its 2 hydrogen atoms covelantly bonded to 1 oxygen atom units. And the quarks give the protons and neutrons qualities to even exist. But the shape of the molecule of H2O is bent and polar provides the distinct characteristics as being a universal solvent, less dense solid than liquid, capillary action, etc.

  2. I think another reason his face lights up, when he's asking someone something, he may have asked them something general like say global warming adding CO2 emissions. If you are certain it is correct, but have no idea why then that is frightening-- the guy not sure why CO2 from trees are okay. It means primarily reason the person may think something is true is because of emotional-persuasion.But reality doesn't care if you are persuaded into believing it or not-- it exists or doesn't regardless.
