Conventional warfare would likely not happen on a larger scale, and if there was time to mount a conventional attack, the conventional attack would be followed up by the losing side with massive nuclear retaliation as a last ditch effort to salvage a win.

Same phenomena somewhat happened with Russia and the former Soviet States; and many nations in Central and S. America. Race to the bottom economics, reason why Brazil's back in recession/depression, China's "growth" is falling apart, Europe's becoming a basket case economically due to the extreme basket case the Middle East and north Africa has become. There's a near limitless servitude labor to exploit around the world, so the developed nations have continued to see their middle classes shrink, and those other emerging nations have failed to produce any meaningful size of a middle class to keep demand up from the demand destroyed by world exploited labor. All they can tout is a few percent of the world was raced out of extreme poverty, but when tallied it's put just as many near or back in poverty, while shoving many middle class into or near poverty, making political tensions become high again toward war and civil war within their nations. It's a recipe for disaster. Thus you have the result of global exploitation.
