  1. It's why speculative real-estate throughout the early 1900's even in early 1800's was always thwarted... it's a blight economically. It's why you have many suburbs around various cities.... and why capitol cities often are smaller than other cities within in the same state: Rules were adopted and charters for new townships were made that had monopolistic prohibitions and speculative stupidity on lots and requirements to develop and max ownership lots, etc. Many of these laws are still on the books in many places, but some places and really many places, these laws are ignored. Rent seeking is a horrible thing, it's better people speculate on baseball cards of stocks and bonds or even futures contracts on raw material commodities, but when it comes something like healthcare, housing, other real-estate to industrial and commercial real-estate, etc. This causes a bad situation overall which ends in levered stupidity that always falls apart. And as it gets into the late stages is stifles needed supply of these basic needs. And you don't want a country with such plentiful amounts of land available to become renters; you reignite the blight that was feudalism.
