Not as many people hunt in Idaho. The numbers of hunters have gone way down. Which causes problems with too large population for big game. Problem with too large population is that they may starve to death, or just become malnourished making them prone to various disease which other big game can catch. A domino effect where large wildlife population then dies in the wilderness. Hence why hunting is actually vital to conservation. I can understand why people wouldn't want to hunt, particularly vegans. They have no desire to eat them. And it is brutal as death tends to be even though compared to some other ways of dying, a bullet is still faster and less painful. Depending on the shot, it can be rather sad still though. So totally respect people who don't want to hunt. But those interested, we need more for conservation. It can be very enjoyable, the act of being in the wilderness and looking for the prey. The killing part does suck though. And I love hunting. I just concentrate on ensuring its as quick as possible for the animal. And never kill an animal that isn't going to used (either by you or given away), and animals of nuisance, still be quick and there must be a reason to kill it. I recall killing a tweety bird once when I was 15. I picked its lifeless body up, and felt terrible. I had no reason to shoot it at all. I dug a hole and buried it. For target practice pop cans and boxes and other nonliving things only after that.
