  1. The temperature thing was overblown. Even piloting an a small single engine plane as most aren't pressurized you can achieve high altitudes. Where I live it is 2,800 elevation. Summer time heat 90F/32C. Temp is -2C for every 1,000 (2Cx10). At 10K AGL or 12,800 MSL its still a chilly 53F/12C degrees at 12,800 MSL. But even in a small Cessna I rarely fly to altitudes in excess of 10,000 MSL (to me that's really high) let alone 12,800 MSL. Unless mountain flying where elevation is easy 10K to 14K
