@sfertonoc Cheap steel prices alone won't help China built more than half of the world's shipping tonnage. They have a skillful, capable, and hardworking workforce to make this happened. All three East Asian countries in fact. countries

Why should you be expecting a disaster in the first place. Their reputation is already well established.

@stc2828 All in good time. They already mastered building high speed rail. Now they are on par with NASA with their space program. Aircraft will be the next milestone.

@ozymandias7592 So why are global customers lining up to engage them to built their ships. Not the shipyards in US or Europe.
6
Like their high speed rail network. 45thousand km in all.
5
All those shipowners must be dumb to get the Chinese to build their ships. Should listen to some random person on YT who seems to be a ship building expert.

Chill. This is a private joint venture project that not involved the Peruvian government. 60% held by China's Cosco Shipping Port and 40% by a Peruvian mining company.
2
The port is not funded by loans. The Peruvian government has no stake in this private joint venture between China's Cosco Shipping holding 60% share while a Peruvian mining company holds the remaining 40%. Do some research before commenting.

No longer true in many instances. Just one example, Chinese drones from DJI and Autel are far superior than American made ones, eventhough they are a lot cheaper. Another is the Chinese built high speed rail. It's construction cost is between 17 to 21 million dollars per km. Whereas it is estimated that the California high speed rail will cost close to 100 million per km. And they are struggling to finish it. No comparison in quality and efficiency with the cheaper built Chinese hsr.

A commercial deepsea port a waste of money? What are you smoking.? Washington spending 2 trillion dollars in Afghanistan and billions more in Ukraine are a waste of money. Nasa spending 5 billion dollars building a leaking and dangerous Starliner spacecraft is a total waste of money. There are lots more of such examples.

Have you seen any port falling apart lately? Are you aware that seven out of the top ten busiest ports are in China. They are the reason why China dominates the global mercantile trade.
1
Why would they do that. Is Peru not a friendly ally?
1
Wrong. China is getting surrounded by US military and naval bases in Japan, Phillippines, Palau and Guam. Peru is in southern part of the Americas.

Nothing is going to Trumpland. It's meant for Peru/ Latin America to Asia. Commenting without actually knowing what's going on.
1
Sure. If it makes you sleep better.

@nosaltadded2530 So said a tofu brain.

This port is located along the Peruvian Pacific coastline, which is mostly semi arid desert type of landscape. Quite far away from their jungle. Get a map and study it before commenting. Make sure you know where Peru is.

If Peru allows, then it's no longer illegal.
