@freedomisnotnegotiable Who do you think supply most of your needs right now? Why wouldn't China have big diesel trucks or towing trucks? They are about the same size as US and has a huge farming industry. They definitely have more farmers and truck drivers than you.

@3600soulbro This won't happen. Take for example solar panels where the Chinese dominate 80% of global market share. Solar panels now have never been cheaper and the only reason why the rest of the world could afford to switch to renewable energy. If you leave the dominance to European or American producers, probably not many can afford to install. The same will happen to evs. Affordable and well built. You should thank the Chinese for making the world greener.

But have house full of Walmart stuff

@StevenGresser Byd Seagull is the best selling ev in China last year. Model Y and Byd Sing are almost neck to neck in 2nd place. But this will change this year.
6
There are ev taxis running around in Chinese city of Shenzhen that have clocked up more than 500k km in mileage. Some still using the same battery. The city public transportation has gone fully electrified since 2017.

I have been hearing about this possible invasion of Taiwan since the seventies. I am now also in my seventies. Doubt there will be one in my lifetime.

@firstlast4888 My first trip to Beijing was way back in 2005. The next time I went back was in 2019. A world of a difference. The city has massively modernized, expanded with more people, more roads and vehicles. Yet it was actually cleaner including the air. Clear blue winter sky throughout my 2 weeks stay. It was usually smoggy during the winter season.

This comment won't aged well. Like what Steve Ballmer once said that the iPhone wont appeal to the business world because it doesn't have a keyboard.
3
Whether we like it or not. They will dominate the EV market along with Tesla.
3
@charleshu5752 But when they try to do what you have suggested here, the locals in Green Township, Michigan, protested about allowing a commie ( Gotion Battery China) to set up shop in their community. Or the Ford /CATL proposed JV battery mfg plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that some in US Congress are not in favor as it increases your reliance on China. So it's not as simple as just opening up factories and manufacture locally.
2
Popular yes. Used to be the best selling ev in China. But not anymore. Latest sale figures show it has dropped to 7th place. Behind 6 other Chinese models.
2
I am still using my 5 year old Xiaomi Mi9T. You know the one that has the pop up periscope camera that was an industry first. Still works fine and getting updates.
2
@jclive4773 This stolen from Tesla has been debunked ages ago. By Tesla. So don't rehash false info.
2
Then buy the car not the stocks.
2
Byd is the king of ev here in Asean. Tesla will always play catch up.
2
Did you lose your way around the house? Must be cramped with Walmart stuff from China.
1
@jamessmith-yk3sc Li Auto as well as Geely are profitable. There could be a few others. 2020 was the first year thst Tesla turned a full year profit, a feat 18 years in the making.
1
@nevarosa76 So it's not because it's a better car but because the Seal is Chinese. Got it.
1
The Chinese will for starters.
1
The iconic VW Beetle actually copied the Tatra97 and got sued.
1
Byd electric buses are top of their class. City of London just awarded them a contract to build 100 electric double decker buses worth £40 million.
1
Damn if you do and damn if you don't. You just can't win.
1
Tesla uses CATL and BYD batteries.
1
@Zinger440 Ford Motors CEO Jim Farley uses a Chinese ev junk as his daily drive. Xiaomi SU7 Max.
1
@gtpete6363 Byd Seal and Atto 3 are the two best selling evs here pushing Tesla model to 3rd place. Still waiting to see the first Chinese ev to combust. They have been on our roads for more than 2 years.
1
@aihji Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion tried to set up a production plant in Michigan. They were met with protest from the local community who didn't want a commie company in their neighborhood. The same happened to the proposed joint venture between Ford Motors and Chinese battery maker CATL to build small affordable evs. Ford will own and operate the plant while CATL will provide the battery tech and support. The project seems to have stalled with US Congress launching their investigation. Not sure if Ford is still going ahead.
1
There were more than 3k cars on board. 70 are ev, 681 hybrids and majority are ice. The cause of the fire is still not known. Could be an ev or hybrid or ice . So let's just wait still it's known.
1
Same old 3 boring looking models we have here. No wonder they have lost ground to the Chinese newcomers. Byd captured more than half the ev market here in Asean.
1
Because they are Chinese batteries as well. CATL and BYD
1
Byd outsells Tesla in China.
1
@LarsRyeJeppesen Launching in July.
1
You get what you paid for. Why complain
1
@jclive4773 No they didn't. The allegation was debunked a long time ago by Tesla themselves. Do not rehash false information.
1
@nonchalanto Robotic slave labour. You should check out some of their almost fully robotic assembly plants. The Chinese are way way ahead in EV technology. Just ask the German automakers where they are investing in the future of auto mobility. Jacking up prices after they dominate? Entirely false presumption. The Chinese totally dominate the solar panel industry, 80% share. Solar panels have never been cheaper and its the only reason why many countries are able to transition to green energy. Leave the dominance to the west and this will become a luxury few can afford. The cheap Chinese solar panels also enable the large installation industry in the West to survive. You should be thanking them for not increasing their prices despite almost zero competition.
1
You are right. They need a Walmart outlet here instead.
1
Imagine if all cyclists and motorcyclists switched to this. Wouldn't it be a lot safer? That's the whole point of this ev.
1
Also not meant for the highways. City driving like going to work, dropping kids off in school, grocery shopping etc.
1
You may not know this. There are ev taxis running around the Chinese city of Shenzhen close to almost ten years now. Since their public transport system went fully electrified in 2017. Some of these taxis have 500k or more km in mileage, without having to change their original batteries.
1
I know. Can't afford one either.
1
Most Chinese evs are designed by fmEuropean designers formerly from Audi, Porsche or BMW. So, they are plagiarizing their own designs. BTW do you know the iconic and beloved VW Beetle is not original. It actually copied the Tatra97 and got sued.
1
Byd net profit for first 9 months of 2024 : USD1.63 billion.
1
@kottuning3294 Try to do some research and see how many Chinese evs have 5 star safety rating from Euro NCAP. You'll be surprised. Safer than many Euro brands. Unless you now say you don't trust the Europeans.
1
And the iconic VW Beetle is a copy of the Tatra 97.
