When there is no full support from the populace (like the Ukrainians) a repeat of the Vietnam saga can happen. President Tsai still has to stand for re election. She may or may not win agst pro China Koumintang party candidate. Already her party lost big time in their recent local elections to this pro China KTM. She actually resigned as her party chief.
