The moment this happened, they immediately approached their fellow Asean member and neighbor Malaysia to reach out to Hamas. Malaysia being a Muslim country has good relationship with the Palestinian Authority. Their efforts paid off when the first group of hostages released, comprised of a number of Thai workers. Why this Thai worker was held back is anyone's guess. Despite Putin's strong support of Hamas, he is not able to get all Russian hostages freed. Two remain in captivity. One is going to be released today. This is not the usual prisoner swap kind of arrangement. You would have seen the amount of time and effort needed by the mediators to get this far.
