  1. Very similar to Australia. We have a temperature range from lowest lows of about -10c, up to nearly 50c ... yet most homes don't have central climate control, and we prefer to dry our laundry outdoors. It's a combination of cultural stoicism (we're not "soft"), and frugality. We don't have central climate control because it's very expensive to install, and very expensive to run. And because we can cope without it. We don't like using clothes dryers for similar reasons (and because we much prefer the smell and feel of sun-dried laundry).

  2.  @vaughanmccarthy6685  Victoria is unique in that respect. Even then, plenty of Victorian homes still don't have ducted gas heating.
