@irishcockneyrebel If they're rented, they're not your home. If you want security and ownership, don't rent.

Exactly. If people stopped demanding to live only in big capital cities, everyone could be housed.

The Guardian is basically Infotainment. Or a religious periodical 🤗

Cities are finished.

@potato1084 But it's totally the issue! Big expensive cities are simply not logical for people on modest incomes. Such people either need to find work elsewhere (or start a business, or raise kids, or whatever they want to do), or find a way to earn enough to afford the big city. These are literally the only solutions. Staying in a place you can't afford and whining, isn't a solution. And no, no one is so special that they should be able to live in such places at a tax payer funded discount .. while everyone else has to pay full price. You don't get to have your cake and eat it. If you can't afford a place, you shouldn't live there. Obviously. What you do about work/earning money is a personal matter, and thus not at all relevant.

@doghat1619 And when your fast food job takes you to San Francisco, where rents can be $7k a month? Once again, if you can't afford a place, you can't afford a place. Your personal job situation isn't relevant. People DO have jobs in the cheaper places - and start businesses, etc. They find a way to make it work for them, obviously. Nothing is stopping the London whiners from doing the same.

@ChartreuseDan I don't think for others. We all have to make choices we can afford, or starve. It's on each of us individually, to sort our own lives out. None of us are so special that we get to have things more easily than others. Being tax payer funded to live in the most expensive cities on earth, while working low stress minimum wage jobs, is outrageous. Truly exploitative and selfish.

No one is forced to live in London - one of the most expensive places on earth. The narrator proves that point by refusing to live there.
