Which you'd think would be a good thing - but one of those luxury beliefs is that people can't help being poor. The last thing they want to be reminded of, is that people like this guy pulled themselves up by the bootstraps, therefore they can too. They find that idea very offensive.

@bath_neon_classical The irony being that some of those systemic issues are the fruit of luxury beliefs. The bourgeoisie themselves are responsible, IOW. For example the claimed 'socialism' of the urban middle and upper classes. This faux socialism erodes the motivation of the common man (the working and middle classes), which subsequently erodes their potential to drive change. The faux socialists have convinced the common man he doesn't need to own property, or be enterprising, or even just consider their own financial security. This disempowers us more effectively than just about anything, and actively contributes to the formation of a massive underclass of dependents (exactly what the overlords want). The common man loses his last bulwark against complete control and exploitation. And even in their day to day lives, these faux socialists make choices FOR massive corporate capitalism, 24/7. They travel more than anyone else, and they purchase labour more than anyone else (via goods & services). They happily pay rents, and happily allow themselves to become reliant on massive and resource hungry infrastructures. They are as pro-capitalism as it gets. They just hope that we're too stupid to notice. They prefer we just run with their luxury beliefs.

Sure, but a lot of what they believe is bunkum. It doesn't deserve measured consideration.

Stoicism is despised by the bourgeoisie. Stoicism is for dirty stupid peasants.

@James_36 I think the minority knows exactly what they're doing - and that these rely on the virtue signalling nature of the bourgeoisie to spread the idea.
