  1. Apartments used to be a good downsizing option. Lots of retirees bought apartments as a result. The problem now is that yearly strata fees (what Americans call HOA fees, but specific to apartments) for newer buildings can be as much as $15k a year. At that price, you basically need to be working. It's no different to rent or mortgage payments - the last thing you want in retirement!

  3. ​ @chantalle7340  Shingles contain asphalt? Not where I live. Here, they're slate, and last many decades. Over 100 years, easily.
