@peki943 Sure, but where do you live? If you're anywhere near a big city, you're living beyond your means. That's why you're poor. You're trying to live like a rich person.

@peki943 To be fair though, we're not supposed to keep renting if we're not rich. Renting is definitely a luxury most of us can't afford. When you know that you're never going to be wealthy, you have to buy cheap while you're young, so it's paid off by the time you retire. Even if you never live in the place you buy, you can rent it out and cover the mortgage. It will also give you a lifetime income in case you do choose to rent.

@peki943 Actually I'm not talking about you in the here and now. The idea (for young people) is to stay in the family home rent free, and save enough money to make a downpayment .. or even pay cash for a cheap place, if you earn/save enough.

@bensheard3969 It's not about the economy, it's about personal choices.

@Keys879 If you feel it's an imposition to do what needs to be done, then you have no grounds for complaint.

@bensheard3969 Of course. You chose to live in a place and a residence which doesn't allow you to produce your own lettuce. I grow my own lettuce from seed. I water them with rainwater. I fertilise them with compost that I produce from kitchen scraps etc. It's always the choices we make. You chose to be enslaved to market prices. I chose not to be.

@peki943 You missed the crucial point. You don't need to buy where you live. You buy where you can AFFORD. You don't need to live in the house you buy. You can rent it out.
