Landlords want the market rate. Just like you want market rate wages for your job. Loyalty etc come from your personal relationships. Your landlord is a businesses person, not a friend or relative. It's not their job to care about you personally. That stuff has nothing to do with them. If you want someone to take care of you, call your parents.

@les0101s Exactly. People in high demand fields (IOW on high salaries), can afford to rent. People on modest salaries can't afford to rent, period - precisely because rents keep increasing. How are they going to handle that when they're retired .. unless they're rich? It makes no sense therefore, to expect to rent housing on a minimum or modest wage. It's wanting champagne on beer budget. If you're poor, you have no choice but to buy your own place or live with family. Either that or end up homeless.

@les0101s Irrelevant. If you knew your. boss was paying you less than the market rate (let's say he told you that his costs have gone up, so therefore he can't pay you the market rate), would you be okay with that? I highly doubt it. You're not a charity, after all. Well .. neither is your landlord a charity. And plenty of people are getting wage increases. You may not be, but that's a you situation .. it's not universal. In some fields, wages are increasing all the time. It's about demand, just like anything else. If you're in a high demand field, you'll be well paid.

@les0101s That's a personal, individual matter. Every one of us has different circumstances. Your battles aren't the same as my battles. Etc etc.

@les0101s One person can easily spend over a million dollars on rent in their lifetime. Most will probably spend more, especially now. Are you telling me that's more affordable than buying a $250k house? If so, then something is wrong your math. Most poor people can't afford to throw away a million dollars. I'm glad you can, but most can't. I certainly can't - which is why I did whatever was necessary to buy a cheap place. I didn't care where it was, because I didn't have the wealth to be picky about location.
