Here in the U.S. despite all the damn disgusting misdeeds committed by BOTH out of control corrupt Cop's & Prosecutors. It's a perfectly acceptable hobby to listen to Police, Fire, Medical, Trucking, & Railroad Radio Traffic through Scanners. So this is quite sad & wrong !

Not entirely true if you're say a RAILFAN or as Brits refer to such as "Trainspotters". Or maybe "Planespotters" writing down Tail Numbers to see where the Planes have been to. Those two hobbies alone could get you leaned on by "The Crown". Even here in the U.S. where it's perfectly legal to do so it could still get you quietly investigated by say Homeland Security or something.
