  2. Be careful calling yourself a Californio as, they were Mexican Landholders who ran their Cattle Ranches much like White Cotton Plantations Owners did in The Old South. Instead of Black Slaves, they paid to have "Native Tribal Peoples" kidnapped and forced to work on their Rancheros. That's one of the reason's I don't feel too sorry for General Vallejo anymore. Even if he didn't do such himself, he certainly protected many Ranchero Owners who did. The Ohlone Tribe of modern day San Jose fought back amonst other reasons due to this and Vallejo did something a Cheesy Hollywood Movie might using Freaking Cannons against them along the Stanislaus River!
