Stockton ( City Lines ), Modesto ( Tidewater Southern ), & Sacramento's including a huge chunk of Northern Cal ( Sacramento Northern ) CA's Street Car/Interurban Systems were indeed shut down by The Auto, Oil, & Tyre Industries during the Great Depression & The Aftermath of WW II. Not to mention the Bay Area's Key System.........So the Who Framed Roger Rabbit Scenario did actually happen throughout the U.S. and California just not so much in L.A..........The sad part about getting rid of these Interurban/Streetcar Systems, such severely added to "DEFACTO" RACIAIL SEGREGATION between neighborhoods, districts, and whole Cities & Towns. As L.A. & The Bay Area sadly proved shortly after the destruction of the Key System & Pacific Electric !
