Question everything.

I have pizza almost every Saturday for lunch and "pizza comas" are common after lunch...

@Thesixwolf6 No one today actually believes the Earth is flat. Some people just have to be contrarian. Or they seek attention, even for something preposterous.

Mmm I love dark (not burnt) toast. 🙂

Great for you quitting smoking. That's one of THE HARDEST addictions to quit for most people. Good luck on quitting your Capitalizing Each Word addiction.

1!:30 What about vaccines that aren't actually vaccines??

The irony being 99% of people reading your comment don't know what asystole is and can't be arsed to even look it up... haha

Lots of these videos have small or big "facts" that are misleading, incomplete, or flat-out wrong. I still enjoy the channel, but this is not an authoritative source of sound knowledge and its own sources are not necessarily original or correct or authoritative either. For example, looking at the disclosed sources for this video, one of the sources contradicts this video by proclaiming daily multivitamins don't really do much for you.

Yes. But the brain still influences it, and the heart will eventually stop beating on its own without drive from the brainstem.

8:37 Not saying the old myth is true, but quite a few things affect our immune systems over our lives and day by day. Cold temperatures can certainly be one of those, especially as the human body changes circulation patterns in response to cold weather and its effects.

Yeah, seemed odd the video pointed to a state of sleep before REM sleep. :eyes-purple-crying:

24:35 What about the myth of saturated fats being bad for you? Oh maybe that will be next... (yeah, right)

4:30 That's... that's a poor assumption. It cannot be assumed that identical twins have the exact same DNA sequences. They may start off the same, but a little mutation early on can change that pretty easily.

30:18 It isn't so much the lack of pain that "the brain enjoys" but the other endorphins/side effects it's enjoying. Like any high. Getting addicted IS a choice. You choose to ingest that substance in the first place. You don't choose your body's reaction to the substance, but you choose when and if to have that substance.

Science Myth #1: Science does not prove things or determine facts. Science demonstrates things that are apparently true because they have not been shown (proved) to be NOT true. An accepted "scientific fact" believed today could be shown to be false tomorrow. Science Myth #3: Not all proclaimed science is science. Just because something is "demonstrated by science" or "proved by science" (see above) does not automatically mean it's authoritative or true. There is lots of bad "science" out there. Humans are flawed and make mistakes, inadvertent or otherwise. True scientific thought and research requires a lot of dedication and an open mind. The truth should be the goal of all scientific endeavors, but not all scientific endeavors are endowed to search for truth or accept it once found. The "science says!" badge is today, more than ever before, plastered around as a mark of irrefutability, often with the goal of convincing people who assume they don't have the wisdom or experience to contest such information, that such information can be trusted to be fair and accurate.

Myth #37: jealousy and envy are the same thing. FALSE envy: wanting something someone else already has for yourself (typically at the exclusion of others) jealousy: fear or feeling of losing something you have to someone else

Smell and Taste are separate things: taste is from the tongue, where the gross essence of food is interpreted (e.g. sweet/salty/bitter/sour/umami) but that's it. Smell is a finer interpretation of the food, such as differentiating molasses from honey. Both are sweet and bitter (acidic) but your taste alone can't tell them apart. But you can smell them apart, whether they're in your body or in front of your face.

Addiction is a mental illness, and all mental illness needs less stigmatization. All of us have flaws and problems and we should be as understanding and caring as is practical with each other. Calm consideration and empathy go a long way. That being said, lots of addiction IS a choice because if you CHOOSE to put an addictive substance into you, you're choosing the (risk of) addiction. You can't choose your body's reaction to the substance, but you can (hopefully) choose whether it goes inside you in the first place. With drugs like acute pain relievers, it can be a profound and difficult choice to make. We all have different tolerances to pain and medicines, so there's no easy answer for everyone.

I thought the pertinent myth was about speed. The video stated existing hairs will grow back thicker because the thicker part of your hair is at the skin's surface and that rises up. The video didn't talk about simulation of "not doing much" hair follicles.

@toosaucy1753 “Addiction is cause weak will.” Yes, and no. Addiction typically starts when one CHOOSES to put something that's (known to be) addictive into his body. He cannot control his how his body reacts to that substance, but he can (in theory) control whether it goes in again after that. Will power and determination can affect that greatly. But it's wrong if you believe it's easy or trivial for someone/anyone to conjure those things upon demand. Addiction affects everyone differently, but it's a complicated psychological and physiological condition. People who are not addicted to things struggle to make good and healthy decisions for themselves... it's far worse during addiction. Three things my mother taught me: 1. The easiest way to quit is to never start. (She died a smoker; I never have) 2. You can never know what someone thinks or believes unless he tells you. 3. You can never know what a particular (romantic) relationship is truly like unless you're in it.

@mandiemoore3272 It's because it's easy to believe.
1
That's very possible, and something that should be taken into account in the "myth bust" but isn't.
1
@ They don't care about truth, accuracy, or conspiracies. They just like to be against the grain, or "to fight the man!" The 60s called these people Hippies. I call them unfocused idiots with too much time on their hands.

Deoxygenated blood. The skin can make it look bluer than it really is, like a bruise.
1
@seaservalroyalty No.
1
This "myth" only related to "faster." "More" is definitely another topic!
1
You are greatly mistaken there!!
1
Yes, most blood is drawn from veins, and veins carry largely deoxygenated blood.
1
Well, it can look blue-ish through the skin. I mean, the veins in my forearms look blue. That has been a VERY widespread myth, so it's not a surprise it's still being taught as truth.
