  1. A solicitor and an attorney fill slightly different roles. The US used to have solicitors but they've all been combined into the attorney. That was simply inherited from British tradition and common law.

  2. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. “A fool and his money are soon parted.” Many so-called audiophile people are fools. But it's their money, they can spend their money however they want. And if a few people are willing to spend $30000 on a pre-amp then power to them for selling one.
