Luckily 1) your honest assessment is incorrect, and 2) Judge Judy would never take the pay cut.

10% isn't really that many. It suggests that there are plenty of stupid college graduates who either know she is not on the supreme Court or that perhaps have no idea which court she presides over.

The reason they're dumb is not because of ignorance of politics... it's because of ignorance of common facts. People who are "not political" tend to know who the President of the United States is. They sometimes even know who the Vice President is. Non-political people should also just know that the Supreme Court is not a one-person deal, that it isn't broadcast on national television like a circus, and that it doesn't usually deal with petty legal actions like depicted on Judge Judy's show.

Again, yes, it does make them dumb. The word dumb means "not very smart" and "stupid." There is a threshold of common sense and lack of critical thinking that makes someone stupid. I didn't say they should know the names of the Supreme Court justices. I said they should know that a supreme court does not convene with one person in California in front of a bunch of TV cameras. Similarly, one should know not to get naked in public, know that theft is wrong, and know that not everybody you meet in life is good for you. Not knowing something is one thing, but not being able to figure out something when pressed to is another.

And since it won't let me edit my comment... I'd also like to point out that college is supposed to broaden the mind and horizons. That means you should know something about the world around you when you come out of it. And the judicial system sure as hell affects you when you're standing in front of it.
