  1. I never heard the term "Spandau" until I read a book about WWII by a British author. Apparently during WWII, the British soldiers referred to the MG34 and MG42 as the "Spandau". I'm guessing this happened because when they were under fire in battle they either had little ability to tell the difference or they didn't care to take the time to tell the difference.
