Winfield Scott is hugely underrated. He shaped the future of the US armed forces. His campaign in Mexico and reforms to the US army had every US officer wanting to be like him.

Sherman was a very smart general and ahead of his in understanding modern warfare. He did what was necessary to win the war and convince not only the South, but also the North that the war was won. He deserved to have a tank name after him. However, he was a racist and a bad with politics. His "40 acres and Mule" offer to freed African-Americans had been what he thought Grant and Lincoln wanted, not out of his own compassion for the former slaves. Sherman had a falling out with Grant after he took over the Army and led a campaign of almost outright genocide against the Native American tribes. It was not want Grant wanted, but Congress and the Republican party has pretty much tied his hands on the issue. This is didn't stop Grant from making speeches condemning the conflict and appointing Native Americans to high positions within the government. I could go on, but I digress.

He was the USA's best president

"As time passes, people, even of the South, will begin to wonder how it was possible that their ancestors ever fought for or justified institutions which acknowledged the right of property in man [slavery]." - Ulysses S. Grant. "As soon as slavery fired upon the flag, it was felt, we all felt, even those who did not object to slaves, that slavery must be destroyed. We felt that it was a stain to the Union that men should be bought and sold like cattle" - Ulysses S. Grant

"Grant is a man of a good deal of rough dignity; rather taciturn; quick an[d] decided in speech. He habitually wears an expression as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it. I have much confidence in him." - Colonel Theodore Lyman, in a letter to his wife. The part about him being hungover when he received news of Lee wanting to discuss surrender is inaccurate. Grant had actually been riding all night, trying to keep up with the army. That's why he didn't have his general's uniform on at Appomattox and why he was covered in mud.

3
@le0shadow Lincoln knew it was a moral evil. At first he wanted to just preserve the Union, but later saw the opportunity to end slavery. Didn't you watch the video?
3
@Fonsea Bagchi Why do you make up lies? His plan was 40 acres and a mule
3
Brits and Canadians are just salty that we win again!
3
Because Lincoln was the best president the USA ever had and he didn't even get to live to see what he had created or help the nation heal
3
France took the opportunity to invade Mexico
2
@ms_scribbles They are to the country that owns 47% of the world's firearms. There is no way your gonna ban or heavily regulate something so prolific and that most Americans believe they have a natural right to own
2
@zackawesomeness2506 The point of the comment I believe is that anytime the USA does anything, someone tries to take credit away from them
2
This is why gun control won't work in the USA. Its already why nobody cares that weed is illegal in many states
2
@jacebernard1831 You are on the same side as the Neo-Confederates

You would have done everything better

1
the Red Scare wasn't until the 1950's
1
@KrasMazovHatesYourGuts Where's the connection to white supremacy? Did you know foxes are a symbol of a Neo-Nazi group? I suggest you change your name
1
@archivesoffantasy5560 Really? Because Eli Parker was a Native American and the first Native American general in the US Army. He wrote the terms of surrender at Appomattox Court House. He was on General Grant's staff.

Kings and Generals did a video on the Battle of New Orelans, but they spend like 15 minutes prior talking about the entire war. Their videos are really good and high quality
1
@ziadjouini1671 Your wrong

Who's forgotten him? He's the most famous president in the USA besides George Washington
1
Funny how a century ago the Prohibition was started by Progressives trying to help women and immigrants. It really shows that progressive morons never change
1
@Supertaldo916 Except he wasn't Christian or Conservative. He appealed to every religion (Christian, Jewish, Muslim) and he appealed to every political party. He convinced workers that alcohol was a capitalist scheme and then turned around and told the factory owners that alcohol made their workers lazy. Did you even pay attention?
