It's simple: Don't fight Russia on land. Don't fight the UK at sea. And don't fight the US in the air. Each country has it's traditions and mastered elements.

A week after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I would say, they are somewhat a paper threat. They have not been very effective

@nomad4678 The constant race between US aircraft and Russian AA weapons is the most iconic rivalry of all time. The danger is when Russians and Americans underestimate their opponent

Russia can definitely give most of Europe a run for it's money. I think Sweden, the UK, and France would give it the most challenge. The only issue for the Russian Air Force is that the USA would not Western Europe fight Russia alone

Cheaper. Russia has less need for guided bombs outside of bombing ISIS in Syria. Between Libya, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, the USA Air Force is always in need of guided bombs. But I don't discredit Russia for it. Most militaries take the cheap route on whatever they perceive as the least necessary. The US Navy didn't start building Frigates until lat year, because they didn't think they were necessary. With potential conflict with Chinese Navy in the near future, the US has started to focus on Frigates again.

@Mr X The USA will never have to set foot in Russia. Russia will wait for an invasion that never comes while their country crumbles into poverty and corruption around them

@qiyuxuan9437 China also has a bigger military. This means their budget is spread over equipping more soldiers. Still, China is very powerful. Their Navy is as big as the USA's and arguably more modern. Plus, like you said, the USA has spent money on overseas bases and conflicts and China has not. Even if China does not have the advanced technology of the US, they can still inflict heavy damage on the USA. China and the USA would be wise to not underestimate each other. China is not Iraq and the USA is not India.

@wolfgangjr74 China has done a lot to modernize. The only thing they lack is combat experience. It's one thing to make vehicles and equipment, but without significant combat experience, it's hard to say how the equipment will match up to needs or how well the structure of your military will function. I'm not saying that China couldn't give the USA a very embarrassing bloody-nose, but they would be wise to not underestimate the US military and it's wealth of experience.

@kenfelix8703 Well anything can happen. We're all arguing about statistics and data, but some farmer with an old bolt-action rifle can still kill an elite soldier. A bullet is a bullet, no matter how much training, time or money is put into the weapon or people who operate it. In a large conflict, the F-18 should dominate the Mig-21 90% of the time, but who knows?
