  1. The Russian military actually got the idea of Glide Bombs from the US. The JDAM came about because the US Air Foece found that it was dropping too many Smart Bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, which are more difficult to produce, take longer to produce and are very expensive. The solution was to take some of the thousands upon thousands of old dumb bombs just rotting away in military warehouses and equip them with wings and basic laser-guidance equipment so that they could be dropped from far away and be guided onto the target. The US had gifted several JDAMs to the Ukrainian Air Force, where they were retroactively wired to Ukrainian Soviet-era military aircraft. Russia saw the ones Ukraine had and thought "Why can't we also try that?"
