Hey fellow Wisconsinite! Thanks for everything your Great Great Grandfather did! He's a hero!

Ulysses S. Grant is arguably one of the best generals the US has ever had and he's extremely under-rated. It's a shame his reputation was dragged through the mud by Lost Causers and Neo-Confederates.

@kvltizt If you know anything about the Vicksburg Campaign, you would know that Grant did not always have better supplies or more troops. He would several battles in Mississippi without supplies and/or outnumbered.

I agree. He's one of the best generals the US ever had, but his reputation has been slandered by Lost Cause propaganda

Pffft that's hilarious

@smartmeis This is like some weird twilight zone communism that you're plugging

The same people who genocided Native Americans for that land had the stupidity to claim it was theirs and they had a right to it. Worse yet, they stole Africans from their homelands and stripped them of their rights. Southerners were morons.

They were Americans

@richshaver3962 What's your point?

Grant was exhausting the enemy. He could afford to do anything, but the Confederates couldn't. His Wilderness Campaign against Lee was brilliant

Grant had a better strategy. Lee was tactically smart, but numerous times, he wasted men and material the South couldn't afford to lose. He was so focused on his strategy of "One decisive battle will win the war" in the east, that he allowed Grant to completely split the Confederacy in half. Now with even less supplies and men available, he wastes men and material at Gettysburg. Lee's reputation is vastly overstated by the Lost Cause Myth. And sore-loser Neo-Confederates are way too harsh on Grant.

Canada wasn't a country. It was owned by the UK and the UK had nothing to gain from Confederate independence. What would they want? A part of Florida?

They were American citizens. But back then, many Americans were immigrants and called each other by their origin (Scottish, German, French, Italian).

Who are you talking too?

Do they teach Spaniards about Americans dying in their Civil War?
