  1. The natural resources of Ukraine, especially natural gas, could free the EU from dependence on Russia. The Yuzivska gas field in Donetsk was discovered in 2010. Just 3 years later, the Euromaidan protests took place. Then in 2014, Russia seized Crimea and a separatist movement started in Donetsk. I think there are some obvious connections to be made here. I think this war goes beyond NATO "expansion" and Ukrainian "neo-Nazis" like the Kremlin claims. Particularly when you consider that President Zelensky is Jewish and many neo-Nazis in Europe and North America look up to Putin as an inspiration, not as an enemy. The first time NATO troops ever entered Poland or any Eastern European nation was 2015, after the Russian annexation of Crimea.
