  1. I'm sure this will irritate some people, but it's amazing how much the USA has been an inspiration for so many modern nations. The USA is not perfect, but it's ideals and it's constitution (the longest continuously-used in the world), have given the inspiration for modern republics from the Philippines, Nigeria, and Liberia to Russian Decemberists and other independence/revolutionary movements, like the Vietcong in Vietnam (it is said that Ho Chi Min was actually inspired by the US Founding Fathers, which makes the American-Vietnamese War that much more ironic and tragic). I also learned that calling the leader of the executive branch "President" was a trend started by the USA, although it seems most facts these days are disputable, like who really invented the airplane, color TV and so on.

  2. It seems to me that Arestovich wants Ukraine to be something more akin to modern France. France is considered very much to be a strong Liberal Democracy, however, it is not a federation. It is a unitarian state with a powerful central government.

  3. True Federations are far more resilient than more authoritarian governments. Sure, Russia claims to be a federation, but in practice it is not. Moscow is very much a strong central government. Better examples of federations would be the UK or the USA, for example, which have not had changes of government in hundreds of years.
