  1. Because they're making it about race, when it has nothing to do with race. Nobody is whitewashing Italians or Romans or Greeks who were (hold on to your seat for this one) mostly white. The paint just washed off over time and people forgot what the original colors were. Then some white dude from the 1800's said statues looked better as plain marble and now it's somehow about "whitewashing" history? Bullshit.
