I heard the South Vietnamese were very similar: you had guys who seriously fought for their country and were competent like the Afghan commander and you had guys who were either with the enemy or just there for the money and drugs. You can't help a people who for the most part, don't want to help themselves. Helping the Iraqi army was a little bit easier because those guys actually had a sense of nationalism and wanting to help their country.

  2. I'm sorry but I don't think you fully understand the situation. And it's not just the USA. It's a coalition of NATO militaries. The USA tried to build a highway to connect all of Afghanistan. Every section built was destroyed by the Taliban. Every section conquered was given to the ANA and that was given back to the Taliban. The USA spends $122 billion in Afghanistan every year. Shipments of trucks, fuels, ammo, weapons, armored vehicles and equipment are given to the ANA. The US military even has program teaching ANA soldiers how to read since 90% of the ANA is illiterate. Thousands of NATO soldier have died in Afghanistan. What else could they do to help Afghanistan?
