  1. I think George Washington was more important from a morale and leadership perspective than a military one. He had a pretty mediocre battle record (6 losses, 6 wins and 2 draws), but the influence he had over the soldiers as well as his ability to keep Congress united and lead the young nation was his real importance. If he had died in the war, it's hard to say the USA would look the same or even exist as we know it today.
