During WWII, new American recruits would arrive in Europe and have to be retrained by the veterans because they were told to never waste their ammo. The combat veterans quickly told them that ammo was easier to replace than their lives. You can't always see the enemy in war. If you see the enemy, they can see you and they can kill you. This isn't Napoleonic Warfare anymore. The enemy is gonna try to kill you before you can kill him.
