  1. Russia was part of NATO's Partnership for Peace until 2014, when it invaded and annexed Crimea. And NATO soldiers had never been west of Germany until 2014, after the Russian annexation of Crimea.

  3. The USA suffered strategic defeats in Vietnam and Afghanistan. War is ultimately a test of wills between two groups of people. It doesn't matter if you occupy a country for 5 years, 10 years or 20 years. If the people don't think the war is lost, they will not give up. Russia is going to unfortunately learn this lesson the hard way.
